HOTEL LE PIGONNET

If you want old world elegance in Southern France, you must have dinner at the Hotel Pigonnet.

From the moment you set foot in the quaint Hotel entrance, with the carved wood reception desk, you will be charmed by the old world beauty. Prior to being seated for dinner make sure to enjoy an aperitif in the magnificent gardens just outside the dining room. The arboretum/bar area is magical.

Dining at The Pigonnet is truly an elegant French experience. Everything from the first course to last is originally conceived and prepared to perfection. We had diner here several times as the food was exquisite. Make sure you take full advantage of the wine list and the local offerings from Provence; they are moderately priced and delicious. The service staff is friendly and accommodating. The food, the atmosphere, the evening will be truly memorable.

MITCH

Mitch is an absolute must when you are in Aix.  The food is delicatable, the presentation is a piece of art and the atmosphere is quaint and cozy.  Everything is very fresh and the menu changes with the season. I had the scallops which were out of this world. The scallops were cooked perfectly and the sauce was light and not over powering.  John had the beef which was tender and perfect.  There was a great selection of wine. We have come to believe that the French keep all the good wine for themselves and export the rest.  You can find a great bottle of French wine for a reasonable price.

Mitch greets you when you arrive in his restaurant. His personality is so welcoming that you feel like you are in his home. The restaurant is very small so you must make reservations.  When we called to make reservations the connection was very bad, so I hung up. Mitch called back immediately and said your reservations are made, see you then.  How refreshing!

 LE POIVRE D' ANE

This tiny restaurant facing the lively town square is such a find. The food is spectacular...exquisite! The service was superlative, very attentive and discreet. The staff was so friendly, we felt comfortable asking about the food and it's preparation. All was received with a smile and answers. I had the tuna and it was fabulous. John had the scallops and every course was better than the first. This truly was one of the best meals we had in Aix en Provence and it is a marvelous value. We will definitely be back!

Reservations are a must for this quaint restaurant. It will be your go to restaurant for Aix en Provence.

AIX EN PROVENCE

Dan B inside.jpg

Actually this restaurant is 20 minutes outside of Aix en Provence. It is in Ventabren.  We were referred to this Michelin star delight while dining at “Mitch,” by no other than Mitch himself, the chef/owner. We figured it was definitely worth the cab ride. It is a little tricky to find, but so interesting to experience the winding country roads of France. Once the cab drops you off, you have to walk through a stunning row of houses in the town to find Dan B. My cab driver called to make sure he was dropping me off at the correct location. The restaurant was very helpful.

Dan B was a true delight. Dan converted this home into his restaurant which is modern and exquisite, floor to ceiling windows overlooking the valley.  I imagine sunset in the restaurant would be spectacular. I was there for lunch and had the 4 course set menu, with wine. The food was elegantly prepared and the flavors just seemed to melt through your body. The monkfish was so delicately prepared and exquisitely rolled in a spiral. The lobster horseradish soup was delicate. I could not even imagine how it would taste. I was a bit unsure. It was my favorite. I wanted to ask for more. Each course was equally delicious and desert was the perfect finale.

I had a party all by myself.
